Introduction
Jorge
de Paz has dedicated a great part of his life
to the endless fight against human rights violations. This work has taken him to
initiate many campaigns not only in his native Guatemala but in Mexico, the
United States of America and Canada. Also some of his campaigns are focused on
safety and peace around the world.
His work has not been dedicated only to writing letters to Presidents and Prime Ministers. In many cases he has had meetings with military leaders, Chiefs of Police, as well as with representatives of different parts of various governments, all in his search for peace and equality. Many of the people and organizations Jorge has worked for and with, have officially recognized his efforts.
Aside
from writing letters and interviewing people, Jorge de Paz believes that the
most effective way to get result is through actions. That is why the same day
that Guatemala's Army and Guerrillas signed the peace agreement he started a 1600
kilometer walk from Mexico City — where most
of the peace talks started — to Guatemala City, where people had been waiting
for this moment for more than 30 years. Jorge's walk was intended to educate
people about the peace process by letting them know that only through hard work
will peace be achieved in the future.
